Winnipeg’s Sherbrook pool closure extended after ‘leak’

WINNIPEG — Another bump in the road to reopening for the Sherbrook pool.

The 84-year-old building was slated to reopen on May 9 but the city said that date will have to be pushed back. When the pool was refilled for the first time since the renovations, some of the drain connections surrounding the pool started to leak.

The repairs are expected to take six weeks but could take longer if the necessary parts aren’t easily found.

The building was first closed in 2012 because of structural problems. The renovations were expected to cost around $4 million and the city, province and Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg covered the bill.

The building needed major repairs including roofing and support beams that needed fixing and much-needed cosmetic upgrades.
