SASKATOON – It was a busy day for canine members of the Saskatoon Police Service. Police dogs helped nab six people in three separate cases over a 17-hour period.
The first case started Wednesday around 8 a.m. CT when police were notified of a break and enter at a garage in the 1200-block of McNaughton Avenue.
Witnesses said a white truck pulled up, several people got out and entered the garage and then left.
Responding officers spotted the truck and attempted a traffic stop on Haida Avenue. The driver refused to stop and evaded police.
The truck was located running a short time later in the 500-block of Appleby Place.
A police dog was brought in and helped officers track down four people. Several items believed to be stolen, including a crossbow, pellet gun and assorted knives were seized.
Members of the explosive disposal unit were called in after an item that appeared to be some type of explosive device was located; it was later determined to be a paint ball or smoke grenade.
Two men, 28 and 22, and two women, 35 and 21, are facing charges of possession of stolen property, break and enter, possession of break and enter tools and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.

Then Thursday around 12:30 a.m., a canine patrol officer spotted a Honda Civic being driver erratically and running stop signs. After the officer pulled the car over in the 100-block of 1st Avenue North, a woman fled the vehicle and the driver took off.
The Civic, which was reported stolen from Vancouver, was found abandoned in an alley at Avenue Q and 22nd Street West. A police dog tracked the driver to a yard a block away.
The 48-year-old man is facing charges of evading police and possessing stolen property.

A half hour later, police received a report of a man entering vehicles in the area of 1st Street and Morgan Avenue.
A police dog made a track from a vehicle to a backyard in the 1600-block of Morgan Avenue where a 28-year-old man was arrested.
Another track by the police dog located items allegedly taken from vehicles in the area.
He is facing charges of prowling at night, theft and breach of an undertaking. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants.
