One man is dead following a fire at a Maple Ridge apartment complex.
Flames erupted around 10:30 a.m. Sunday and were contained to one of the units at the Urbano Apartments on 12238 224th St.
The male tenant suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital’s burn unit where he later died.
According to resident Chris Wishart, the deceased man was elderly. He says several residents have been forced out of their units for at least a couple of nights due to water damage from the sprinklers going off.
Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started, but say it’s not suspicious.
The man’s name has not been released yet.
The coroners service is also investigating.
