WEST KELOWNA–The Okanagan is getting a lot more attention from the film industry more people are going to be needed to work on set.

As many as six movies are set to be shot in the region this year. It’s an unprecedented number and the projects will need all kinds of skilled workers.

“It’s all over the map,” says Paul La Grange with the Okanagan Film Commission.   “Everything from people looking at introductory level jobs behind the camera to script writers and directors.   But we’re looking for crew. Camera operators, electricians, hair and makeup, set painters. We need everybody”

Vic Sarin is one director that enjoys shooting in the Okanagan. He first shot “A Mother’s Nightmare” here in 2012. Since then he’s produced three more films in the region and has plans for two more this year.
He says the draw is simple.  The Okanagan is beautiful.

“The whole reason for coming here is the look of the film, which is fantastic,” says Sarin.  “But besides the look, we need infrastructure. So, the crew members, if you have to bring them all in from L.A. or Vancouver it’s not profitable for the budget. So we need strong local people.”
