WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Goldeyes continue to build their bullpen for the upcoming season, signing veteran right-handed pitcher Mikey O’Brien.

The team will officially announce the deal on Wednesday morning.

O’Brien played in the Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles’ organizations last season, reaching the Double-A level with both clubs. The 25-year-old finished the year with a 6-8 record and a 3.45 ERA. He also pitched a no-hitter for the High-A Carolina League’s Frederick Keys in August.

“Mikey is what I consider to be a top-of-the-rotation starter,” said Goldeyes’ manager Rick Forney in a news release. “Mikey has spent the last four seasons at the Double-A level and has been very successful. He logs a lot of innings, boasts an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio and has allowed just 0.6 home runs per nine innings in his career.”

In 163 games over eight professional seasons, O’Brien is 43-44 with a 3.79 ERA. He’s started 128 games throughout his career. O’Brien was selected by the New York Yankees in the ninth round of the 2008 draft.
