MERRITT — Merritt RCMP and Central Interior Traffic Services are investigating a single-vehicle accident on the Coquihalla Highway that sent five people to hospital with serious injuries.
Police say a northbound Honda Civic was involved in a collision near the Mine Creek exit at around 1 a.m. Sunday.
The five occupants of the vehicle, all from the Lower Mainland, were transported to hospitals in Merritt and Kamloops with serious injuries.
A collision reconstruction team from SED ICARS Kelowna attended the scene.
Police say alcohol and speed appear to have been factors in the collision.
In a statement, police said “it is fortunate that no other vehicles were involved in this incident.”
