Canada-wide warrants issued for suspects in Calgary kidnapping and sexual assault

CALGARY – Police are searching for two men wanted in connection to the kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman in the city’s southeast last year.

The victim was leaving the Tropicana 2000 Bar and Grill in the 1800 block of 35 Street S.E. at around 2 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27 when she was approached by a man who forced her into a white SUV.

He took the woman to a residence where she was sexually assaulted by three men, on three separate occasions.

Police said the victim, a woman in her 40s, was held against her will.

She was able to leave the home at around 9 a.m. the next morning, at which time she called police.

On Wednesday, police announced three men had been charged in connection to the assault, although only one has been taken into custody.

Jose Alfredo Aguilar Cruz , also known as Alfredo Cruz, 38, is charged with sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 30.

Investigators are still searching for:

  • Edvin Rolando Cruz Cerrato, also known as Rolando Cruz, 45. He is wanted on Canada-wide warrants for sexual assault and kidnapping. Police describe him as approximately 160 pounds, 5’5” tall, with brown eyes and greying black hair.
  • Berlin Noel Valle Banegas, also known as Noel Valle, 25. He is wanted on Canada-wide warrants for sexual assault and kidnapping. Police describe him as approximately 170 pounds, 5’7” tall, with brown eyes and black hair.

“It is believed the men have been living in Calgary but may have ties to other parts of Canada and Honduras,” police said in a Wednesday news release.
