Man convicted of second-degree murder in death of ATM technician

A jury in Prince Albert, Sask. has convicted a man of second-degree murder in the 2010 death of an ATM technician. Daniel Smith was convicted of killing Roger Byer after a trial last week.

Court heard that Smith and Byer had planned to stage a robbery together.

They had arranged to meet on Jan. 20, 2010 in the Yellow Creek district.

Byer’s truck and body were found in a heavily treed area on an abandoned farm site between Yellow Creek and Meskanaw on April 1, 2010.

Smith will be sentenced on March 31.
