Three beached whales were discovered on a U.K. beach near Skegness in Lincolnshire last weekend. Soon after, the whales became canvases for graffiti.

Online images showed that someone had spray painted the letters “CND” on the tail of one of the whales, reportedly signifying the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

“Fukushima RIP” – a reference to the 2011 nuclear power station disaster in Japan, and “Man’s Fault” were also written.

Although nobody knows why the whales died, many are enraged on social media by the way the whales’ remains have been treated.

A fourth whale was spotted off the coast of Norfolk on Friday before it became stranded and died at Hunstanton. And on Monday, a fifth sperm whale beached itself.

Pathologists examining the five sperm whales say they were probably from the same pod.
