WINNIPEG — The city’s largest school division will review a comprehensive transgender policy at a meeting Monday tonight.
The draft policy is aimed at fostering a ‘safe environment and equal access to school programs, activities and employment for all students and staff.’
The policy includes a dress code, which stipulates that students should be able to dress ‘in a manner consistent with their gender identity.’
It also says students shall have access to washrooms and change rooms for the gender they most identify with. Schools are also encouraged to have a universal toilet room available to all students.

The policy also included definitions for those who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Two-spirit and Queer/Questioning (LGBTTQ), to help facilitate better understanding for both students and staff.
It will be introduced to WSD’s policy committee for review Monday night.
