Prank prompts police tactical response in Flamborough

Hamilton police are investigating a false report that prompted the tactical response team to spring into action in Flamborough, Ont. early Friday morning.

Police say they received a call shortly after 12:30 a.m. ET. of an alleged weapons threat inside a home in a community northwest of Hamilton.

The Hamilton Police Service Emergency Response Unit was dispatched to the scene but detectives soon discovered there was no immediate danger.

Police say residents inside the home were unharmed and completely unaware of the policy activity outside their residence.

Authorities say a criminal investigation has been launched to determine the origin of the false report.

Police are reminding the public that a “malicious report” is a criminal offence and can put lives of first responders and citizens at risk.
