Lethbridge police release holiday check stop numbers

LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Police Service released numbers Monday from its Christmas Check Stop Campaign for 2015 and the number of impaired drivers has increased slightly since 2014.

Between Dec. 1, 2015 and Jan. 1 2016, eight motorists were charged with impaired driving, up from six impaired drivers last year.

The number of 24-hour suspensions was down from seven in 2014 to three in 2015.

The rest of the numbers are as follows:

Drugs: 4
*Suspended driver: 8
No license: 10
Unregistered: 6
Uninsured: 2
Graduated Driver’s License suspensions: 12
**Gaming and Liquor Act (GLA): 8
Other provincial statutes: 115
Warrants: 2
Immediate roadside sanctions: 10

*A suspended driver is someone who has had their driver’s license suspended as result of a previous offence.
**GLA refers to violations such as improper conveyance of alcohol (a bottle being in reach of the driver) and open liquor container in a vehicle
