Lethbridge man charged with aggravated assault after stabbing in alley

LETHBRIDGE- A 40-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault after a stabbing last week.

At around 11:45 p.m. Dec. 29, police responded to a 911 call reporting a man had been stabbed in an alley along the 500 block of 6 Avenue South. Police located two men, one of whom was suffering from serious stab wounds. Police said the men had been socializing when a fight broke out, resulting in a 32-year-old man being stabbed with a knife.

One man was arrested at the scene and the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was transferred to Foothills Hospital in Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance, but has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Shawn Stanley Levi Lawson, 40, of Lethbridge, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

Lawson was released from custody and is scheduled to make his second court appearance Jan 8.
