WINNIPEG — Morris Glimcher will be stepping away from the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association following 40 years as the organization’s executive director.

Glimcher will retire from the position at the end of the school year on June 30, 2016.

Glimcher’s career began in the early 1970s as the student manager for the St. John’s High School Tigers. He later managed the University of Manitoba’s Junior Bisons basketball team before being hired by the MHSAA to be its executive director in 1975.

Glimcher was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame as a builder in 2013 and is also the only Canadian to have been recognized with a citation by the National Federation of State High School Associations. He’s a two-time Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Good Guy Award winner.

The MHSAA says it has already begun its search for Glimcher’s replacement.
