Man kidnapped and robbed while getting into his sedan in Brentwood

CALGARY – Police are looking to the public for help as they investigate a kidnapping and robbery that took place in the community of Brentwood earlier this month.

Investigators said the victim was getting into a sedan on the 3600 block of Brenner Drive N.W., between 7 and 8 p.m. on Nov. 18 when he was approached by a stranger who forced his way into the vehicle.

The suspect demanded the victim hand over his phone and wallet, and told him to drive the grey 2005 Ford Focus. Investigators believe the sedan travelled northbound on Shaganappi Trail to a construction site near Sage Meadows Green N.W. and Symons Valley Parkway N.W.

The suspect tried to get the PIN for the victim’s bank card, but was unable to. He assaulted the victim, causing serious injuries with an unspecified weapon, and left the scene on foot.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was attempting to drive to safety when he lost consciousness, causing his vehicle to enter a ditch along Burma Road N.W.

EMS found the victim and transported him to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said he has since been released from hospital and was recovering at home Monday afternoon.

Police describe the suspect as between 5’10” and 6’ tall. They said he was wearing a grey or tan hoodie, a dark blue or black coat and blue jeans.

Police described the incident as a random attack.
