POINTE-CLAIRE — After sitting closed for seven years and attracting little more than vandals and trespassers, the abandoned buildings on the corner of Donegani Avenue and Sources Boulevard could soon be coming down.
The City of Pointe-Claire is expected to issue a demolition permit this week to Rafael Tzoubari, the owner of the 16,000-square metre property.
The landlord is hoping to demolish the buildings, destroy the asphalt parking lot and clean up the lot starting this week.
Tzoubari received a letter from the city ordering him to do so or face a legal challenge.
“We are going to do it probably starting this week,” he told Global News Monday.
The entire site is on the market for $3.75 million. It’s been for sale for more than one year.
The owner estimates demolishing the buildings and cleaning up the site could cost as much as $250,000. But Tzoubari argues the site will likely be much more attractive to potential buyers once the buildings are gone.
“I believe something exciting can happen here. And we will work with the city to make it exciting,” he said.
The site is zoned commercial but the city could change the bylaw if a future buyer proposes a project that satisfies the city and helps revitalize the entire Valois village.
