CALGARY – Officials have confirmed a young man killed in an accident in British Columbia earlier this week is from Cochrane, Alta.
Family of Anders Newman said he died doing what he loved; hiking in the beautiful mountains of British Columbia.
The B.C. coroners office said Newman, who had recently moved to Victoria, was hiking with six friends near Campbell River last Sunday.
The group was going down the trail when Newman lost his footing and fell over a steep cliff.
A public visitation was held Friday at McInnis and Holloway Funeral Home; a celebration of life will be held in Cochrane Saturday.
Family and friends have set up a memorial page for Anders on Facebook.
The Times Colonist newspaper said the 18-year-old student fell near Big Interior Mountain at about 8:45 a.m.
