WEST KELOWNA — An RV fire in West Kelowna Sunday night completely destroyed the vehicle; but, thanks to fast-acting fire crews the blaze didn’t spread into the main area of nearby Bear Creek Provincial Park.
The West Kelowna Fire Department (WKFD) responded to a report of an RV fire within the southern boundary of the park around 9:45 p.m., according to Assistant Fire Chief Brent Watson.
“On arrival, crews found the RV fully involved with fire extension into the surrounding trees,” says Watson.
“Venting propane tanks caused the fire to flare up dramatically on several occasions, making the fire visible from downtown Kelowna.”
WKFD responded with 16 firefighters, a water tender, a command unit and a utility vehicle. B.C. Ambulance and RCMP also responded.
Watson says no injuries were reported in the incident that caused a closure on Westside Road for about an hour and a half while crews extinguished the fire.
