Fire crews remain at scene of Brampton house fire

TORONTO – Firefighters continue to monitor hot spots after a massive blaze destroyed a mansion in Brampton Wednesday morning.

The fire started around 7 a.m. at a house located on Goreway Drive near Castlemore Road. Police said no one was injured.

Initial reports said the home was abandoned but Brampton Fire clarified that the owners were away and relatives were looking after it.

“We have no reason to believe anyone was in the home,” said Brampton Fire Deputy Chief Peter Gatto.

Five fire trucks attended the scene along with 15 apparatus. Fire officials said an exterior perimeter was set to contain the flames.

“We’re still in defensive mode. We’re winding down. Several apparatus on scene pouring water,” said Gatto. “Defensive fires are quite dangerous. There’s a risk of collapse.”
