Man arrested in Distillery District takedown to reappear in court Sept. 24

TORONTO – A 60-year-old man arrested following a police chase that involved an officer firing multiple rounds at the suspect’s stolen vehicle in the city’s Distillery District Wednesday afternoon made a short court appearance Thursday morning.

The accused, who was wearing a windbreaker on top of a black faded polo shirt, will once again attend the College Park Court on Sept. 24 via video, the court heard.

Edward Michael Skotnicki is facing five charges including theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, flight while pursued by peace officer, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

Police say the accused allegedly stole a silver Toyota Corolla at Bond Street and Shuter Street at about 12:05 p.m and was apprehended following a police chase that ended at the intersection of Parliament Street and Mill Street.

The takedown involved three police cruisers ramming the vehicle with one officer firing several rounds while the suspect was resisting arrest, police say.

No one was injured during the incident and the accused is scheduled to appear at College Park Courts today.
