The two people were hit just before 7 a.m. by a westbound vehicle while they were crossing Lougheed Highway near 216 Street.

“One of the pedestrians is in very serious condition as a result of this crash,” said Cpl. Alanna Dunlop with the Ridge Meadows RCMP. “Two pedestrians were crossing the Lougheed Highway during rush hour, and it appears they were not using a marked crosswalk. Police are frustrated with the number of collisions involving pedestrians trying to outrun the traffic on the Lougheed Highway, as these are preventable incidents. It is strongly recommended pedestrians utilize the intersections that have traffic lights to cross safely.”

RCMP want to remind people to stay safe on the roads, especially with school back in session next week. Always walk facing traffic, stay on sidewalks where possible, and only cross roads inside marked crosswalks or at safe intersections. As well, drivers are reminded to always watch for people crossing the street, even outside of intersections or crosswalks.
