WINNIPEG — Winnipeg police have charged a 44-year-old mother with second degree murder in the death of her 2-month-old baby girl after the infant was admitted to hospital with suspicious injuries earlier this year.
Police say it was another family member who brought the baby to the hospital on April 27,2015. Baby Annamaria died the next day.
On Tuesday, the 44-year-old mom was charged with second degree murder.
“We had a lot to do,” Const. Jason Michalyshen said of the lengthy investigation. “Very sensitive, very unique circumstances.”
Police will not say how the baby died or the nature of her injuries. But sources have told Global News she was brought to hospital with excessive bruising and fractures.
Global News is no longer naming the accused as her two other children are now in the care of Child and Family Services.
