Highway 97 crash kills driver in north Okanagan

SPALLUMCHEEN – A single vehicle crash Friday morning has claimed the life of a north Okanagan man.

He was driving northbound on Highway 97A near Eagle Rock Road in Spallumcheen when his vehicle jumped the median, crossed the two southbound lanes, and rolled into the ditch landing on its roof.

The crash was discovered by an off-duty RCMP officer at about 4:15 a.m.

The 30-year-old victim, who was alone in the vehicle, was taken by ambulance to the Vernon hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

His name has not been released while family members are notified.

The incident closed the highway for about five hours while police investigated.
