Niagara police continue search for baby freed from hotel safe

Niagara police are seeking a grey 2015 Ford passenger van similar to the one shown here.

TORONTO — Niagara Regional Police say the parents whose baby was freed from a locked hotel safe are still in Ontario and are eagerly seeking them for questioning.

They’re not wanted on any criminal charges, but police are eager to speak with them and check on the welfare of the infant who was somehow locked in the safe at a Niagara Falls Howard Johnson’s hotel on Tuesday.

A hotel maintenance worker freed the baby, who police say was alert and crying. The parents took off before police were called and apparently have not yet returned to their home in New York State.

Police say the parents are Asian and travelling in a grey Ford passenger van with the New Jersey licence plate B31EUB.
