WINNIPEG – Police say no charges will be laid in bizarre incidents earlier this month involving cash left on walking trails and a man approaching women who found it.

At least four women came forward to say they’d found an envelope or wallet stuffed with cash on walking trails.

A man would then appear and then claim the wad of money, saying he’d lost it. None of the women were harmed but the incidents were troubling nonetheless. One woman told Global News she had the creepy encounter two times.

But in a news release Wednesday, police said they’d found the man and interviewed him and determined “no criminal activity was associated to these incidents.”

But a police spokesperson wouldn’t go into detail about what the man was doing or why.

As previously reported, the Winnipeg Police Service has been made aware of a number of occurrences over the last month regarding incidents where women out walking or jogging would find a wallet on the ground with a significant amount of money in it. A male would then appear and claim he had lost something in the area, often retrieving the wallet.

No criminal activity was associated to these incidents and none of the women involved were harassed or threated.

“Though no charges resulted from this investigation, the Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank members of the public for notifying them of this suspicious activity,” police said.
