Lower Mainland residents are expressing their joy on social media this morning as rain is falling across the region.

The hashtag #rain even started trending on Twitter.

As of Friday morning, Environment Canada is calling for two to five millimeters of rain today in Vancouver and less for the Fraser Valley and Victoria.

A cold front is sweeping across the Interior and the South Coast, bringing not only scattered showers but the risk of thunderstorms.

The cold front will be followed by an upper trough that will spread showers and isolated thunderstorms across much of the province over the weekend.

These systems will give the South Coast at least a few millimeters of rain as they move through. It is expected to dry out on Saturday, with 30 per cent chance of showers in the Lower Mainland.

A ridge of high pressure building over the South Coast will bring clearing over the southern half of the province on Monday, while an approaching Pacific frontal system will bring showers to the North Coast.

Many are hoping the cooler weather and rain will help the wildfire situation in the province and help ease the water restrictions; however, officials say it is not enough rain to make any difference in the water restrictions at this time.

The Southern Interior will be sunny and warm on Tuesday thanks to an upper ridge. An upper low over the Gulf of Alaska will bring clouds and showers to the northern half of B.C.
