Winnipeg fire claims lives of 2 cats

WINNIPEG – A blaze in the North End Monday morning was called in by police who were already at the scene, a Winnipeg fire official said.

Smoke billowed from the home when firefighters were called to the blaze at 676 Pritchard Ave. just after 5:30 a.m.

A witness said one person was taken away from the scene in handcuffs.

No one was in the house, but two cats died, Winnipeg fire Platoon Chief Barry Evans said. The house suffered significant damage, he said.

Police are investigating, Evans confirmed.

No information was available about what caused the fire.
