The City of Vancouver says it has been dealing with a “very serious incident” related to a staff member this afternoon.
A City spokesperson says the Manitoba Works Yard in Vancouver was evacuated, and extra police are on scene at other city buildings, including City Hall.
Vancouver police spokesman Randy Fincham confirmed they have secured a number of works yards and job sites following a threat against a City of Vancouver employee.
Fincham added they do not believe the general public is at risk.
Mayor Gregor Robertson said in a statement that “this kind of incident is very challenging for the thousands of hardworking staff who come to work every day to make Vancouver a better place, and their safety and well-being is my utmost concern.”
Police have not confirmed whether the increased security is related to a shooting that took place in Burnaby earlier today.
