CALGARY – A trial was set on Thursday for a Calgary cab driver charged with sexual assault.
Umar Khayyam, 35, is accused of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman in January.
He will now stand trial in April.
The victim says she was locked in the taxi and driven to a secluded alley where she was forced out of the cab and sexually assaulted.
Several of the bail conditions originally imposed on Khayyam have been lifted, including a curfew.
Kyayyam is a temporary foreign worker from Pakistan who has been in Canada for less than a year. If convicted, he would be deported.
