Uxbridge man charged after allegedly swimming naked in neighbour’s pool

Jason Scott / Global News

TORONTO — A homeowner in Uxbridge, Ont. got quite the shock when she returned home and allegedly found a naked 18-year-old man inside.

Parker Reilly, 18, faces a break and enter charge after police responded to a call from neighbours that an unknown man was swimming naked in the pool of a house on Second Avenue at about 12:15 p.m. Monday.

Police said Reilly lived on nearby Remion Crescent, which is just a few blocks away from the scene of the alleged incident.

Durham Regional Police Sgt. Bill Calder said the crime was “unusual” and that police suspect drugs and alcohol “might have played a role in his behaviour for sure.”

“But it doesn’t discount him from the fact that he shouldn’t be breaking into someone’s home,” added Calder.

“He ransacked some bedrooms, it looked like he ate from a couple of food trays that were being prepared for a party that was going to happen there later and he also, it appears, he took a shower in the house too.”

Calder said the homeowner was “startled” and the experience was “very upsetting” for her when she arrived home and allegedly found Reilly naked.

Police said the suspect fled out the back door into a wooded area, which is when a canine unit was dispatched that tracked him to a nearby pond where he was found hiding in tall grass.

“He didn’t get very far though,” said Calder. “I don’t think there was any educated plan to it.”

Calder added that the first priority in the investigation was to make sure the victims were taken care of because of the traumatic experience.

“It’s very upsetting to them,” he said. “At the same time we’re still very much looking into what caused this behaviour in the first place too.”

Calder called the incident a “troubling case” but no charges will be laid in connection with the alleged nudity.

Reilly was later released on an undertaking with unspecified conditions, but police are asking anyone with new information in this investigation to contact Det. Collins of the North Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2677.

Anonymous information can also be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or online at http://www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca, and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
