TORONTO — Meghan Trainor‘s lips aren’t movin’ much this week after doctors ordered complete vocal rest.

The 21-year-old singer announced Thursday she has cancelled shows in New Jersey and Connecticut this weekend due to a hemorrhage on her vocal cords.

“I have never missed a tour date before so this is killing me,” Trainor wrote in a message to fans on Instagram.

“I love you all very much and want to get healed quickly so I can show you this amazing tour we’ve been working on.”

Trainor has not yet said if the tour will resume on July 7 in Michigan. She has dates scheduled through early September. There are no Canadian shows.

“I am truly sorry to everyone who has bought tickets and made travel plans,” she wrote. “I hate this.”

British singer Sam Smith announced in May he was cancelling shows due to a hemorrhage on his vocal cords.

Last month, Canadian rock band Nickelback cancelled the rest of its North American tour so lead singer Chad Kroeger can be treated for a cyst on his vocal cords.

Céline Dion cancelled nine shows in Las Vegas last year to receive treatment for “acute inflammation and swelling in the muscles adjacent to her vocal cords.” The Canadian singer cancelled 10 shows in early 2012 for similar reasons.
