TORONTO — Canadian rock band Nickelback announced Tuesday it is pulling the plug on its remaining North American tour dates.
Lead singer Chad Kroeger, diagnosed with an operable cyst on his vocal cords, has been ordered to rest his voice ahead of surgery.
“I am sorry I have to interrupt the party this summer and I am definitely not thrilled with the prospect of being silent for many weeks to come when I could be out there playing for our fans” Kroeger said in a statement.
“I am relying on my doctor and his team to help get my voice back in good form as quickly as possible.”
In a video message posted online, Mike Kroeger added: “Sometimes these things happen and we need him to properly take care of his voice. Apologies to everybody. We understand everyone’s frustration. We totally and sincerely apologize.”
The tour cancellation includes only one Canadian show — a July 23 concert in Ottawa.
Refunds are available at the point of purchase.
The band plans to resume the No Fixed Address tour in Finland on Sept. 30.
