Two in hospital after shooting in Saskatoon

Watch above: A local expert is taking aim at street gangs over the latest string of shootings. Joel Senick says police are investigating but some have already drawn the conclusion the actions were retaliatory.

SASKATOON – Two people are in hospital following a shooting in Saskatoon. Police were called to the 300-block of Avenue R South around 4 a.m. after receiving several reports of gunshots.

Police converged on the scene, including a canine unit, where they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to hospital in critical but stable condition.

Investigators believe the suspects approached the house and fired shots at one man. A second man attempted to flee but was chased to an alley where he was shot.

The suspects then fled.

Officers stopped a vehicle a few minutes later and detained four people. No charges have been laid.

“I can say that these individuals knew each other, this was not a random act,” said Brian Shalovelo, a Saskatoon Police Service inspector.

Shalovelo added that police are not looking for any additional suspects.

“We believe, right now, that we’ve got all those people involved,” he said.

Numerous firearms have also been recovered. The Saskatoon police targeted enforcement section continues to investigate.
