One dead in head-on crash near Love, Sask.

LOVE, Sask. – One person is dead after a head-on crash in Saskatchewan. The fatal collision happened Tuesday evening just north of Love, Sask.

Mounties say a northbound Dodge car and a southbound Pontiac car collided at the crest of a hill 10 kilometres north of the community. The impact caused one vehicle to catch on fire.

Local residents provided assistance to the crash victims before first responders arrived at the scene.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was declared dead at the scene. Police are still attempting to identify the deceased driver.

The driver of the southbound car was taken to Nipawin Hospital with serious injuries and later transported to Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert. There is no word on the current condition of the driver.

The coroner’s office, the Prince Albert RCMP collision reconstruction unit, Nipawin RCMP and the Nipawin Fire Department continue to investigate the events leading up to the collision.
