SASKATOON – Versatile Canadian receiver Scott McHenry continues to impress at the Saskatchewan Roughriders training camp nine months after suffering a scary neck injury against the B.C. Lions that ended his 2014 season prematurely. McHenry is not only back the field, but he’s showing no ill-effects following an injury that could have ended his career.

“I’ve been training since the brace was off six months ago,” says the former Saskatchewan Huskies star.

“(I was) really into it where I was pain free, feeling really good and knew everything was good was about four months ago. So I’ve had quite a bit of time. The body is there. It’s responding to everything I worked on in the off-season and so far on the field it’s feeling good.”

Like Darian Durant discussed on the opening day of camp regarding his elbow, the next step in the progression of McHenry’s neck injury is getting hit. The Saskatoon product and six year pro is confident that he will be able to get over that final hurdle.

“That’s the next step right. We’re bumping and we’re hitting a little bit and grinding.  We haven’t put pads on yet so that will be the next step,” said McHenry.

“Just hitting somebody and realizing that it is healthy. From what I’ve felt from the first couple of practices here I don’t think that will be a problem.”
