Winnipeg dentist faces 4 new charges of sexual assault

WINNIPEG – Ronald Peterson, a Winnipeg dentist charged in November with five counts of sexual assault, faces four new charges.

Peterson, 68, was charged with five counts of sexual assault and five counts of sexual interference on boys under 16 from January 1998 and May 2014, police said in November. The assaults occurred both at work and in public social settings, police said.

Winnipeg police continued to investigate and after news of Peterson’s arrest was published, four more men came forward, police said in a news release Friday. The four, aged 11 to 18 at the time of the alleged offences, accused Peterson of abuse during the time period from 1986 to 1993.

Peterson was rearrested on April 23 and charged with four more counts of sexual assault and one count of overcoming resistance to commit an offence.

Peterson has been released on a promise to appear in court at a future date.
