Sentencing reserved for woman guilty in fatal 22nd Street crash

SASKATOON – Cheyann Peeteetuce will not learn her fate in a Saskatoon courtroom on Wednesday. The judge is reserving his decision and is now expected to hand down a sentence on June 12.

Peeteetuce pleaded guilty to seven charges, including two of criminal negligence causing death, after two teens were killed in a horrific crash last year.

Sarah Wensley and James Haughey, both 17, were killed in the crash on May 5 at the intersection of 22nd Street and Avenue M after a stolen truck Peeteetuce was driving smashed the car Haughey was driving. A third teen was seriously injured.

Peeteetuce also pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing bodily harm, impaired driving, possession of a stolen vehicle, evading police and breach of probation.

An 18-year-old woman who was the passenger in the stolen truck was sentenced as a young offender in January to a maximum of three years for her involvement.
