KELOWNA–A 19 year old woman is back at home, after being rescued from a canyon in Mill Creek Regional Park.
The Kelowna Fire Department was called in to assist the Ellison Fire department with the rescue at 5:30 Monday afternoon.
The woman had been hiking along the creek, when she slipped on some loose gravel and slid to the bottom of a ravine.
The Kelowna Fire Department used its high angle rope system to send a rescuer down into the ravine to retrieve the hiker.
“There was no other way to get her out of the canyon,” says Scott Cronquist, Kelowna Fire Department Captain, “we talked about walking her out but there was no way, it was too dangerous.”
The rescue was complete by 7:30 p.m.
The woman was checked over by BC Ambulance, and was able to go home with her family.
