WATCH: Story recognized with RTDNA Adrienne Clarkson award for Diversity
WINNIPEG — The Radio Television and Digital News Directors Association has recognized Global Winnipeg with the Adrienne Clarkson award for Diversity for a feature story revealing the challenges facing Manitoba’s First Nations.
The piece highlights First Nations students coming to Winnipeg to complete their education. It aired on Global Winnipeg’s weekly current affairs program, Focus Manitoba, last November.
Ada Scriver is featured in the story. She’s one of hundreds of kids who leave their remote communities at 15 and move to the city.
Ada had never been outside of Shamattawa before, and had to adjust quickly to everything from dealing with transit schedules and strangers, to growing accustomed to not being able to see the stars at night.
