Hunter falls through ice snowmobiling in northern Saskatchewan

FOND-DU-LAC, Sask. – A hunter in northern Saskatchewan was rescued after falling through the ice while snowmobiling on April 18. RCMP say the snowmobile was submerged about 30 kilometres north of Fond-du-Lac.

Just after midnight on April 18, Mounties were notified of the situation. The hunter was uninjured, had supplies and was in contact with family via a satellite phone.

RCMP reached out to the Canadian Ranger Patrol Group in Fond-du-Lac for assistance. The rangers are known for their experience on the northern trails and knowledge of lake currents, especially during warmer temperatures.

With knowledge of the stranded hunter’s approximate location, the rangers located the individual on a trail during the noon hour on April 19 and the group returned back to Fond-du-Lac.

The hunter did not require medical attention.
