Diehl, 29, was found beaten the evening of Aug. 29 in the back alley of the 500-block of 5th Avenue North. He was declared dead a short time later.

During the trial, eyewitnesses testified seeing Diehl being beaten. A forensic pathologist confirmed Diehl died as a result of a stab wound to the chest which led to excessive bleeding.
