Marijuana packed in suitcases seized at Edmonton airport

EDMONTON — On Monday, two suitcases containing a total of seven kilograms of packaged marijuana plants were seized by RCMP at the Edmonton International Airport.

Around 11:45 p.m. on March 23, RCMP were contacted about a suspicious suitcase that had several plastic bags with green plant material inside spilling out of it.

After investigating, officers found a second suitcase that belonged to the same traveller with similar plant material inside.

RCMP seized seven kilograms of packaged marijuana plants.

An Ontario man, 43-year-old Houman Todjar Mahadjeri, has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Substance Act.

He has been released on bail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on April 23, 2015 in Leduc Provincial Court.
