SASKATOON – A second-degree murder trial in Saskatoon ground to a halt Wednesday morning as police try to track down a defence witness who was a no-show.

Abraham Eagle is accused of killing Kelly Brian Diehl in August 2013. Diehl, 29, was found beaten the evening of Aug. 29 in the back alley of the 500-block of 5th Avenue North. He was declared dead a short time later.

Eyewitnesses testified to seeing Diehl being beaten. A forensic pathologist confirmed Diehl died as a result of a stab wound to the chest which led to excessive bleeding.
