REGINA – Three people were taken into police custody Tuesday night after the SWAT team surrounded a home in the city’s east end.

Officers blocked off the area for several hours around the 400 block of Froom Crescent for several hours.

Police said the incident stemmed from a weapons offence in the North Central neighborhood that happened at about 12:30 p.m.

Their investigation led them to the second location and Elizabeth Popowich with Regina Police said additional support was brought in when police were unable to make contact with people inside the home.

No charges have been laid yet, but police say they are pending further investigation.

The area remained blocked off to the public for several hours as police determined whether there was anybody else inside the home.

One resident, Crystal Chamberlin, was waiting to pick her daughter up from daycare but had to wait until the area was cleared.

She said she was quite worried because she had little details as to what was unfolding in the area.

“My mom called at four and said she couldn’t get my daughter from daycare because the SWAT team was out. There was apparently a gunshot placed at three o’clock,” she described.  “I came down to try and get her but they wouldn’t let me.”

Police haven’t confirmed if there were any shots fired at either location or what weapons were involved.

They don’t believe anybody was injured at either location but continue to investigate.
