WATCH: Community rallies behind victims of Mission’s flash flooding

WATCH: An outpouring of support for the families displaced by this weekend’s flash flooding in Mission. Jeremy Hunka reports.

There is an outpouring of support for the families displaced by this weekend’s flash flooding in Mission.

Close to a dozen houses were flooded and some residents are now living out of hotel rooms while trying to fix their homes.

The damage is the result of a freak flood Saturday morning when heavy rains pushed debris and plugged a culvert, pouring water onto nearby properties, and some residents are blaming the city.

Mission mayor Randy Hawes says it was a once in 45 years rain event.

Hawes told Global News as far as compensation goes, the city is going to do what’s fair to all taxpayers, including people who have been victimized by the flooding.

But the community is already rallying around victims with neighbours helping to cleaning up and donations pouring in.
