EDMONTON — A 15-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman are facing a list of charges after allegedly leading RCMP in northwestern Alberta on a long-distance car chase.

On Sunday afternoon, Fort Vermilion RCMP responded to an impaired driving complaint. Officers found the suspect vehicle north of town, at the intersection of Highway 58 and Highway 88.

Officers say the vehicle took off and police followed it for over 25 kilometres. During the course of the chase, police allege the 22-year-old at the wheel swapped places with the 15-year-old.

A spike belt was eventually used to stop the vehicle and three people in it were arrested.

Police said breathalyzer results showed the 15-year-old was nearly three times over the legal limit and the 22-year-old over double the legal limit.

Police also discovered the vehicle had been taken without the owner’s consent.
