TORONTO – A Colorado man has been arrested in connection with the suspected arson of a home that had been spray-painted with the words, “My wife is a cheater”.
Fire fighters were called to 6854 Nelson Street in Arvada early Tuesday morning after a report of a house fire. According to a police report, the home was completely engulfed in flames by the time both fire and police officials arrived.
First responders didn’t find much left at the scene. The home had been gutted by the blaze and an apparent explosion had sent debris and furniture into the street.
A family of five had been living in the home, but the wife and all three children were absent at the time of the blaze.
“It’s a younger family,” neighbour Fred Holman told FOX affiliate KDVR. “They’ve lived here about five years, maybe a little longer. They’re very nice people, very good neighbors. I would never think anything like this would happen.”
Possible motivation for the arson was advertised across the front of the home. The bricks near the front door and window had been clad in graffiti announcing “My wife is a cheater.” The name of a man was also painted on the wall.
Approximately nine hours after first arriving on scene, Arvada Police tweeted that a suspect had been placed into custody.
The suspect was later identified as one of the residents, William Lindauer, who turned 31 last week.
Lindauer has been charged with first degree arson and other related charges pending a full, joint investigation by the Arvada Fire Protection District and Arvada Police Department.
