Court hears CrimeStoppers call of accused murderer proclaiming his innocence

TORONTO – The jury at the trial of accused serial killer Mark Moore heard an unusual wiretap recording of the suspect, in which he proclaims his innocence.

In the recording played to the jury on Monday, Moore can be heard pretending to be someone else and telling a CrimeStoppers operator that “Mark” is not the man responsible for shooting four men in the fall of 2010.

Moore made the call on October 21, 2011 from the Don Jail where he was being detained after being arrested two days earlier for the shooting deaths of Jahmeel Spence 27, Mike James 23, Courthney Facey, 18, and Carl Cole, 45.

Police allege Moore killed the four men over a two month period, all with the same handgun. He has pleaded not guilty.

On the call to CrimeStoppers, Moore identifies himself as a good friend of Moore’s named Christopher Parker. He says his friend “Mark” is not responsible for the killings and the charges are a result of a “police vendetta.”

Lead investigator Det. Sgt. Hank Idsenga told the jury Tuesday  that the CrimeStoppers call was recorded during a lengthy 120 day wiretap investigation.

Idsenga admitted investigators held a number of news conferences including memorials on the one year anniversary of three of the murder victims, to stimulate conversation on the wiretaps.
