One in and one out for the Winnipeg Goldeyes

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the re-signing of infielder Brock Bond for the 2015 season. The 29-year-old will return for a second season in Winnipeg after joining the school of fish last June. Playing at second base he finished with a .326 batting average with 20 runs batted in and a league best .448 on-base percentage.

“He’s a true professional hitter,” Manager Rick Forney said through a media release. “His numbers don’t lie. He’s the perfect guy for the top of our batting order and he was a great addition to our ball club when we added him last year.”

Bond also drew a team high 50 walks despite missing about a third of the season. Prior to joining the Goldeyes, Bond played in the San Francisco Giants minor league system for seven seasons including three years of Class AAA.

“We have high expectations of him this year,” said Forney. “Hopefully he can be in the running for a batting title. That’s the kind of hitter that he is.”

The Goldeyes also completed a trade sending infielder Ryan Pineda to the Can-Am League’s Sussex County Miners for cash. In his only season in Winnipeg, Pineda appeared in 76 games, hitting .274 with five home runs and 31 RBI.Pineda played outfield, third base and even saw time at second base last season.
