Parent could be charged after incident outside Penticton BCHL game

Penticton RCMP say charges may be laid following an incident outside the South Okanagan Events Centre last Friday. Police say that after a BCHL game between the Penticton Vees and the Merritt Centennials the parent of one of the Merritt players approached referees and linesmen in the parking lot.

RCMP say the parent swore and threatened the officials.

“There was no physical assault but we continue our investigation and we are considering forwarding a report to crown recommending charges of uttering threats,” says Sgt. Rick Dellebuur of the Penticton RCMP. “The officials were quite concerned and afraid.”

The final score of the game in question was 4-1 for Penticton.

Police say an official with the BCHL brought the incident to their attention Saturday.
